“The search for letters” by Peter and Paul in the fourth chapter is probably one of the most intriguing metalingual episodes in Between Dog and Wolf (1980) by Sasha Sokolov. Using metareference theory, the present article thoroughly analyzes this episode, providing new insights into its connection with devices such as realized metaphor and paronomasia, as well as the overall textualized reality of the novel.
