This article evaluates the eaeu through lenses of four salient regional integration theories: neofunctionalism, liberal intergovernmentalism, social constructivism and neorealism, in four corresponding dimensions of integration: economic, politico-institutional, cultural and geostrategic. It concludes that the eaeu is not a useful undertaking for Russia in any of the listed dimensions. The bloc’s economic consequences for the smaller states will be harmful. They will experience major production cutbacks and huge adjustment costs because of their undersized firms.
