Erstmals widmet sich eine große Edition den Praktiken der Monarchie im 19. Jahrhundert. In internationaler Perspektive stellt das Quellenwerk in einer neuen Folge der traditionsreichen Acta Borussica bislang ungedruckte Aktenstücke für die Forschung zusammen. Die dritte Reihe veranschaulicht am preußischen Beispiel, welche Anpassungen die europäische Monarchie an eine Gesellschaft im Wandel vollzog. Wirksame Integrationsleistungen wie auch deren Grenzen werden greifbar. Die ersten Bände widmen sich Funktionen, Entscheidungsformen und Entscheidungsinstanzen des Hofes. Später stehen performative Praktiken am preußischen Hof, wie sie im Modus höfischer Konkurrenz auch durch kulturelle Transfers aus den europäischen Nachbarländern geformt wurden, sowie Strategien und Reaktionen der Monarchie auf den gesellschaftlichen Wandel im Blickpunkt.

Other volumes will highlight e.g. the performative practices at the Prussian court as they were shaped in competition processes and by cultural transfer from neighboring European countries.

Einen wichtigen Bestandteil des kritischen Werkes von August Wilhelm Schlegel (1767–1845) machen die akademischen und öffentlichen Vorlesungen aus, die er seit Beginn seiner Vorlesungstätigkeit an der Universität Jena im Jahre 1798 bis zu seinem Tod gehalten hat. Unter ihnen sind – vor einer großen und erlesenen Zuhörerschaft vorgetragen – am bekanntesten die Berliner Vorlesungen über schöne Literatur und Kunst (1801–1804), die neben einer Kunstlehre wichtige Darstellungen der antiken und der romantischen Literatur enthalten, sowie die Wiener Vorlesungen Über dramatische Kunst und Litteratur (1808), die man wegen ihrer lebhaften Rezeption in allen europäischen Ländern die »Botschaft der deutschen Romantik an Europa« genannt hat. Hinzu kommen die Vorlesungen über philosophische Kunstlehre von 1798/99, die Vorlesungen über Encyklopädie von 1803 und sämtliche überlieferten akademischen Vorlesungen aus der Periode der Bonner Lehrtätigkeit von 1819–1844, die ein breites Spektrum an Gegenständen abdecken: Akademisches Studium, alte Geschichte, Kunstgeschichte, antike, mittelalterliche und neuere Sprache und Literatur.
Ein Großteil dieser Vorlesungen hat sich in August Wilhelm Schlegels Handschrift erhalten, andere sind in Mitschriften seiner Hörer überliefert. Eine kritische Gesamtausgabe von Schlegels Vorlesungen, die bisher nur zum Teil gedruckt vorlagen, wird hier zum ersten Mal vorgelegt.

Die vorliegende Reihe möchte das Gespräch der christlichen Theologien mit nichtchristlichem Nachdenken über die letzte Wirklichkeit beflügeln und ein Forum für die sich neu entwickelnde Forschungsrichtung der Komparativen Theologie bieten. Dabei geht es darum, Wege zum Verstehen nichtchristlicher Religionen auszuloten, in denen die Verschiedenheit der je anderen Weltzugänge angemessen gewürdigt wird, ohne die Geltungsansprüche der eigenen Religion in unzulässiger Weise zu relativieren. Zugleich geht es darum, Debatten zwischen christlichen Theologien und nichtchristlichen Weltzugängen nachzuzeichnen und so ein freundschaftlich-solidarisches Ringen um die eine Wahrheit aus der Sicht verschiedener Religionen zu stärken. Und schließlich soll hermeneutisch zu einem besseren Verstehen über Religionsgrenzen hinweg beigetragen werden. Getragen sind diese Bemühungen von der Einsicht, dass das bessere Kennenlernen der anderen immer auch eine Hilfe ist, um sich selbst besser zu verstehen und das eigene Nachdenken über Gott bzw. die letzte Wirklichkeit zu vertiefen.
Um diese Ziele zu erreichen, kommen in den Beiträgen zur Komparativen Theologie Theologen und Theologinnen bzw. Gelehrte verschiedener religiöser Traditionen miteinander und mit Vertreterinnen und Vertretern der Religions- und Kulturwissenschaften ins Gespräch, um so im interdisziplinären Gespräch die religionsbezogene Forschung zu vertiefen und im Methodenspektrum zu erweitern. Dabei werden gesellschaftlich brisante und für das interreligiöse Gespräch zentrale Fragestellungen ausgewählt und theologisch bearbeitet. Der Vergleich über Religionsgrenzen hinweg soll auf diese Weise Orientierungsleistungen für Menschen heute erbringen und das dialogische Profil der Theologien schärfen.
The book series, Contributions to Comparative Theology, stimulates the conversation of theologies of different religions and provides a forum for the newly developing research field of Comparative Theology. It advances ways to fathom and understand other religions, in which the diversity of another’s religious view of the world is adequately acknowledged without impermissibly relativizing the truth claims of one's own religion. At the same time, the series portrays real debates between Christian theologies and non-Christian worldviews, showing the ways in which a friendly pursuit of the one truth can be charted without compromising the integrity of one’s own religious commitments. Finally, by working hermeneutically, this series contributes to a better understanding of the differences that lie across religious boundaries. These efforts are underlined by the awareness that getting to know each other better is also helpful to arrive at a better understanding of one’s self and to deepen one's thinking about God – or ultimate reality.
To achieve these goals, theologians of various religious traditions come together in conversation with each other and also with representatives of religious and cultural studies. In the ensuing interdisciplinary dialogue, understandings of religion are deepened and expanded as socially and religiously challenging issues and topics, particularly those that feature prominently in interreligious conversation, are investigated theologically to reveal the unique contribution that Comparative Theology can make to advancing a civil dialogue and a civic culture. Theological investigations across disciplinary and religious boundaries thus provide resources for sharpening the dialogical profile of different theologies through the medium of Comparative Theology.

Die inter- und transdisziplinäre Studienreihe Beyond Historicism – New Testament Studies Today baut auf den philologischen Prinzipen auf, die der Übersetzung des Frankfurter Neuen Testaments von Stefan Alkier und Thomas Paulsen zu Grunde liegen. Der philologisch-kritische Respekt vor der jeweiligen Ausdruckskraft der Zeichenproduktion anderer ist nicht nur die wissenschaftliche, sondern auch die ethische Grundlage der Studienreihe Beyond Historicism. Sie publiziert kritische philologische, exegetische und historische Monographien und Sammelbände, die in unmittelbarer oder auch mittelbarer Weise neutestamentliche Texte in ihren jeweiligen enzyklopädischen Kontexten erhellen. Die Verpflichtung zur gründlichen kritischen Philologie als Grundlage der Datenanalyse und der historischen Hypothesenbildung will jeglichen Historizismus hinter sich lassen. Manuskripte können in deutscher, englischer, französischer und italienischer Sprache eingereicht werden. Sie durchlaufen ein peer-review-Verfahren innerhalb des Herausgeberkreises und seines wissenschaftlichen Beirats.

The commitment to thorough critical philology as the basis for data analysis and historical hypothesis formation aims to leave behind any form of historicism. This series welcomes multidisciplinary research on the history of ancient and medieval anthropology broadly understood in terms of both its European heritage and its reception of, and engagement with, various cultural and intellectual traditions (e.g. in Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Coptic, Syriac, Arabic etc.). This series encourages multidisciplinary studies of the various philological, textual, and archeological sources concerned with the development of anthropological theories in ancient medicine, philosophy, religion, and theology, as well as the subsequent theoretical and practical interactions between these theories. Particularly welcome are studies that emphasise the fundamental connection between different philosophical, scientific, and socio-cultural contexts where anthropological theories were produced and applied, and that analyse the implications of these theories in ethical, ascetic, ecological, gender, and political life from classical Antiquity up to the Middle Ages. Attempts to understand human beings as biological, physiological, religious, and socio-cultural entities persisted from Antiquity and are echoed in the establishing of the complex and multifarious European identity. In grasping this cross-cultural and diversified process, one is able to see the foundations of contemporary scientific, religious, and political discourses that treat the human being and how humanity relates to the world.
In Western ecumenical research, the perception of Orthodox theology still suffers from the stereotype of representing a solidified traditionalism. In contrast, Orthodox theology is dominated by the clichéd notion of Western Christianity as modernism contrary to tradition. This overlooks the many interesting and novel research approaches. On the one hand, these are developed at orthodox institutions worldwide in response to modern scientific questions, and on the other hand they reveal the continuity of the Christian heritage in change in Protestant and Catholic drafts. The series aims to provide a forum for these research approaches and thus enrich the ecumenical discussion with contributions that have been written from a culturally and religiously different background. The series focuses on monographs, but is also open to inter- and transdisciplinary scholarly anthologies. It accepts contributions in German, English and French. All manuscripts are peer-reviewed.

This new series focuses on the interplay between theological thinking and cultural self-understanding of the Oriental-Orthodox, the Byzantine and the Uniate branches of the Eastern Churches worldwide. The series studies the Eastern Churches' various roles within their mainfold contexts, i.e. either as actors within the transformation-processes in Eastern Europe or as minorities both in the Middle East and in the north American diaspora. By fully acknowledging the role of ritual and hagiography for the ecclesial community-building and the theology of the Eastern Churches the series opens up new approaches to an often-neglected dimension of global Christianity. The series accepts contributions in English, German and French. Each incoming manuscript is evaluated in a peer-reviewing-process conducted by renowned specialists from the editorial and the advisory boards.
