Peter Dinzelbachers Handbuch der Religionsgeschichte is the first edition that pro-vides a full overview of the German history of religion. Its goal is to outline the essential characteristics of spirituality, piety and folk religion within and outside the institutional church rather than tracing well-known ecclesiastical tactics. The description is based on a combined historical and phenomenological point of view: On the one hand, the book shows how dominant forms of Christian Religion developed in different eras and denominations, on the other hand, it focusses on the relating processes of conveyance and manifestation.
