Erstmals widmet sich eine große Edition den Praktiken der Monarchie im 19. Jahrhundert. In internationaler Perspektive stellt das Quellenwerk in einer neuen Folge der traditionsreichen Acta Borussica bislang ungedruckte Aktenstücke für die Forschung zusammen. Die dritte Reihe veranschaulicht am preußischen Beispiel, welche Anpassungen die europäische Monarchie an eine Gesellschaft im Wandel vollzog. Wirksame Integrationsleistungen wie auch deren Grenzen werden greifbar. Die ersten Bände widmen sich Funktionen, Entscheidungsformen und Entscheidungsinstanzen des Hofes. Später stehen performative Praktiken am preußischen Hof, wie sie im Modus höfischer Konkurrenz auch durch kulturelle Transfers aus den europäischen Nachbarländern geformt wurden, sowie Strategien und Reaktionen der Monarchie auf den gesellschaftlichen Wandel im Blickpunkt.

The book series “Culture and Education” includes publications about both the theory and the practical implementation of education. The volumes are selected with regards to the manifold connections among different understandings of culture. At a time of the ongoing quantification and numerical comparison of education processes, the publications of this series share the idea that education is a fundamental and anthropological element of man’s culture. The different volumes of this series focus on the idea that the human being is inseparably connected to, and even dependent with and on, learning. However, learning is always realized in specific cultural contexts.
Examples of this are the relationships between education and religion, education and literature, education and politics or education and aesthetics. With this plurality of possible connections in mind, the series broaches the issue of the relationship between culture and education with regards to three distinct methodological approaches.
First, the series includes work on foundational research that becomes manifest in publications about the philosophy of education. Second, the series includes publications on fundamental ideas of education and their realization in different historical constellations and/or significant works on educational theory. Third, the series includes publications which address the relationship between culture and education from a comparative perspective. These volumes attempt to broaden the intercultural discussion on learning as an anthropological constant.

Mit diesem vierbändigen Werk zur Geschichte der Ästhetischen Bildung wird eine Lücke in der Geschichte der Bildung und der Pädagogik geschlossen. Die Beschäftigung mit Kunst, Schönheit, Spiel und Form hatte in allen Epochen der europäischen Geschichte zentrale Bedeutung für die Bildung des Menschen. Ästhetische Bildung war und ist dabei immer eng mit künstlerischer Produktion und ästhetischer Rezeption sowie mit Nachahmung und Kreativität verbunden. In diesem Werk werden zentrale Theorien bzw. Ideen Ästhetischer Bildung im Grundriss darstellt. Die Darstellung ist in vier Zeitabschnitte gegliedert, die Antike und das Mittelalter, die Frühe Neuzeit, die Neuzeit und die Moderne. The preoccupation with art, beauty, play and form has been of central importance for human education in all epochs of European history. Aesthetic education has always been closely connected with artistic production and aesthetic reception as well as with imitation and creativity. In this work, central theories and ideas of aesthetic education are presented in outline. The presentation is divided into four periods: Antiquity and the Middle Ages, the Early Modern Period, the Modern Period, and the Modern Age. The central authors are treated in each case under biographical and content-related aspects; the respective theory of aesthetic education is presented in outline. Cultural studies introductions open up a historical framework for forms of life, world views, educational concepts, and aesthetic models of the individual epochs.

Der Autor des Handbuchs ist einer der anerkannten Experten der Disziplin. Seine konkrete und anschauliche Darstellung der Grundlinien von mehr als 1200 Jahren deutscher Wirtschafts- und Sozialgeschichte wird ein Standardwerk für alle werden, die sich mit der Geschichte von Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft Mitteleuropas vertraut machen wollen.
Band 1 behandelt die Zeit vom frühen Mittelalter bis zum Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts; Band 2, Band 3/I und Band 3/II werden 19. bzw. 20. Jahrhundert zum Gegenstand haben. Hennings bekannte »Wirtschafts- und Sozialgeschichte« (UTB, 3. Bde.) war auf die unerläßliche Grundinformation für Studenten der Geschichte und Wirtschaftswissenschaften beschränkt. Identity, Freedom, and Moral Imagination in the Baltics
Does it make sense to refer to the social and political existence of the Baltic countries as to being between civilizations of East and West, or as being on the boundary of two worlds? What are the most characteristic features of modern moral imagination? How does it manifest itself in the politics and cultures of the Baltic countries? These will be the main foci of the book series intended and launched as a critical examination of identity, politics, and culture in the Baltic countries. We are not going to confine this series to Soviet and post-Communist studies. By offering a wide scope of the social science and humanities disciplines, we would like to encourage intercultural dialogue and also to pursue interdisciplinary research in the field of Baltic studies.
